Report of Community Health Fair, June 29, 2008
The Health Fair organized by the Asian Pacific Health Center at the Vietnamese Federation on June 29, 2008 was an enormous success. Thank you to all who participated at the semi-annual event year after year. Nearly 150 persons registered for the wide variety of health services, and about 50 volunteers including UCSD medical and pharmacy preceptors, students, members of the Vietnamese Federation of San Diego, the Asian Pacific Health Center, the Vietnamese Physicians Association of San Diego and the San Diego Vietnamese Pharmacists Association came to provide the free health services to the community.
The range of services covered: - Blood pressure checking - Diabetes screening - Total cholesterol screening - Heartburn awareness - Hepatitis B and C screening - Osteoporosis screening - Oral – dental screeningDr Ton Tran gave a presentation on Colon Cancer early detection during the lunch time. At the Asian Pacific Health Center booth, Binh Tran explained the benefits of early detection of breast and cervical cancers, and encouraged the patients to get free mammograms and Pap smears. A program on Medicare Part D was conducted by UCSD pharmacists and students to help members select the best prescription benefit plans for the seniors.
The Health Fair was ended at 2:00 PM.
