Asian Pacific Health Center receives Distinguished Award in San Diego
Asian Pacific Health Center, a non-profit community clinic in San Diego, received the Asian Heritage Award in Health and Medicine offered by ASIA
Media Inc. and the Asian Heritage Society on Saturday May 10, 2008 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt – San Diego. This is the 5th Annual Dinner Event
to honor the achievements of Asian Americans in the community.

Present were the Mayor and a large number of officials and representatives from all sectors of the public and private enterprises. Leonard Novarro
and Rosalynn Carmen, Editor and Publisher and Co-publisher and Executive Director of ASIA, the Journal of Culture & Commerce addressed the
audience, expressing their joy when receiving the nominations of nearly 60 organizations and individuals. The categories range from community
service, humanitarian outreach, health and medicine, legal and government affairs, to technology and research, education, cultural preservation,
art/philosophy/literature, and performing arts. Entrepreneurship, business enterprise, media and youth leadership complete the fields of activity.
A vibrant program of entertainment was presented, showcasing folkloric dances and distinctive musical performances.
Asian Pacific Health Center under the direction of Ton Tran, MD, Medical Director, and Binh Tran, PharmD., Executive Director, promotes good
preventive practices. At various health fairs and community outreaches, the center provides free screening for Hepatitis B, and educates on the
early detection of breast, cervical and colo-rectal cancers. UCSD medical and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students
participate at these sessions for their experiential learning. The center also collaborates with the SSPPS Partners in D faculty and student
pharmacists to help community residents in the selection of their Medicare Part D plans.
Present at the Award ceremony were Tiet Tran, President of the Vietnamese Federation of San Diego, APHC Board Members Khoa Nguyen, Hai Nguyen and
Binh Tran, and many members in the Vietnamese community.
